Green Travel Tips

We at Vertical Media are committed to doing our share to conserve our natural resources and protect the environment. The following practices are offered as suggestions for Eco Friendly travel.

What is Ecotourism?

Ecotourism:
Responsible travel which conserves the environment and supports the livelihood of local people.
Ecotourism Activities:
Activities that are designed to entertain clients while remaining environmentally friendly.

Eco-Friendly Travel Practices

  1. Do your homework. Research hotels and tour companies that have ecotourism policies in place.
  2. Prepare your home. Before leaving, turn down the thermostat and water heater at your home.
  3. Reuse towels and sheets throughout the trip.  Many hotels now change towels and sheets only upon request therefore alleviating an unnecessary action and saving hundreds of gallons of water each year.
  4. Choose eco-friendly activities. Biking, hiking, whitewater rafting and kayaking can be green activities, depending on the tour operator.
  5. Pack it out. When traveling bring as little potential trash as possible and pack out your waste.
  6. Request paperless communication. Invoicing and receipts can all be done electronically.
  7. Go local.  Support local companies and organizations that employ environmentally sensible practices.

Ecotourism Standards to Look For:

  1. Leaving a minimal impact on the environment.
  2. Preserving natural heritage.
  3. Local community involvement.
  4. Support sustainable development.
